Each year, the NYS Department of Health/Early Intervention Program offers a special training and professional development for families who are receiving or just completed Early Intervention services.  The EI Partners Training is an opportunity to have parents and caregivers build on the skills they have learned working with their own children and interventionists and become involved with their Local Early Intervention Coordinating Council (LEICCs) and committees as advocates and leaders.

The Early Intervention Project helps parents of young children with disabilities become involved in Early Intervention Program leadership activites. These training sessions provide information, resources, and skill building activities designed to increase parent advocacy and leadership skills. Parents are encourage to form working partnerships with early intervention professionals and policymakers.

These training sessions are free and include meals, overnight rooms and handouts. A limited amount of reimbursement is available to help parents with travel and childcare costs. EI Partners will select parents from Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Sullivan, Ulster and Westchester counties, and the five counties of New York City (Bronx, Kings, New York, Queens, and Richmond) to attend.

A series of three sessions will be held at the Radisson Hotel New Rochelle on the following dates:

  • Session I:  Saturday, September 25, 2010, 9am-3pm
  • Session II: Friday, October 22, 2010, 4pm-9pm
                      Saturday, October 23, 2010, 9am-3pm
  • Session III: Friday, November 19, 2010 4pm-9pm
                       Saturday November 20, 2010, 9am-3pm

Parents must commit to attend Session I and both days of Session II and III. This commitment is a requirement for acceptance to the Early Intervention Partners Training Project. Parents who are interested in attending must complete the application.
